Initial concept drawing, showing basic lines. Though it's hard to see from
this angle, the horizontal grille elements have already been established. Note how at this
point the fenders are not so pronounced and there is a running board and slash vents on
the side of the hood. It looks like the tail light on the rear fender was an early design
point. |
 |
Early drawing for the concept car. The fenders are now more pronounced and
mirror other shapes of the car. The front end looks less 'hot rod' and more 'early 50s
Chevy pickup'. |
 |
Production vehicle drawings. The mirrors have been dropped from the top of
the A pillar to the beltline. Most of this appears to have made its way to the production
car. Although the little edge spoilers under the front fenders didn't make it. |
 |
Chevy's media material says that the SSR was completely designed on
computers. This is a 'math study' for the production vehicle. At this point, the mirrors
are still high, but the design is pretty much set. Note how the five-spoke wheels have
been consistent throughout the designs. |
 |
Another 'math study' for the production vehicle. The interior elements,
with the dash shape and the 'roll bar' seat backs are set. The chrome 'bumper' detail bar
running accross the rear (like the one in front) is still present, but by the time the
production car was shown at the 2002 Detroit show, they cleaned up the back of the car and
deleted the chrome bar. |
